Bushfires Community Chaplain

'The Word became flesh and dwelt among us' John 1:14

In response to the tragic fires that swept the state of Victoria on Saturday February 7th Rev Tracey Wolsley, Associate Minister in the Anglican Parish of SE Bendigo and chaplain to the Bendigo and Fortuna CFA, has been appointed by the Diocese of Bendigo to undertake the role of Community Chaplain in the fire affected areas.

As Community Chaplain Tracey will predominantly work in the fire stricken areas and seek to bring comfort and hope. In the wake of such extreme trauma and loss the need for pastoral care is great.

Community Chaplaincy is about being available and present where needed. It requires coming alongside people and journeying with them on their road to recovery. It's a ministry of encouragement, listening and practical service wherever it's needed.

February 7th 2009 has become known as Black Saturday. On that scorching day a Bendigo resident died and some 57 homes (and other structures) were destroyed by fire in the regions of Eaglehawk, Long Gully, Bendigo West and Maiden Gully. On that day of red alerts bushfires raged across the state making it the worst disaster in Australia's history. It's effect will be long lasting and requires extraordinary support in these extraordinary times.
